Adelaide to Wilpena Pound

Depart Adelaide and let us take you on a tour filled with a bucket load of highlights which have shaped the Flinders Ranges to such an excellent holiday destination. Our first stop takes us to one of the oldest wine regions in Australia, the Clare Valley. It is best known for it's Riesling wine, tradition and heritage. Enjoy a structured wine tasting before continuing our journey further north. We drive through small country towns and stop for lunch along the way.

Then it is onto Hawker where we visit the Wilpena Panorama Gallery and view Wilpena superbly portrayed by local artist Jeff Morgan. Not far to go we take on the last stretch to the Flinders Ranges National Park. We will arrive at Wilpena Pound Resort mid afternoon in time for a walk along the Wilpena Creek Trail or an optional scenic flight over Wilpena Pound, the ABC Ranges and surrounding gorges. Watch the sun set over the ranges before or after dinner tonight.

A full day touring in the Ikara Flinders Ranges National Park

Today we will spend a full day discovering the rugged ranges and taking in the living culture of the Ikara Flinders Ranges National Park. Start with a walk to the Hills Homestead located in Wilpena Pound and marvel at the views from Wangara Lookout. Plenty of photographic opportunities as we walk through the Pound Gap past Sliding Rock and indigenous art work.

Up next we drive to Stokes Hill Lookout for 360 degree views of the Flinders Ranges and the Great Wall of China, a rocky ridge line and geological feature between Wilpena and Blinman. Blinman is the highest town in South Australia sitting at 614m above sea level and the town is home to an old Copper Mine. We join an underground experience into the heart of the mine and learn about the miners and their families.

There is time to look around town before we take the scenic drive through Bunyeroo Valley with its impressive views to Wilpena Pound's Razorback Ridge from the lookout stops. Travel back in time on the Brachina Gorge Geological Drive passing through millions of years of earth and history. With a little bit of luck, we may even see the endangered Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby. Having experienced some of the best places in the Flinders Ranges we arrive back at Wilpena Pound Resort late afternoon.
