Australian Outback Safari Tour from Adelaide to Darwin in 18 Days

Adelaide to Port Augusta where the Australian Outback meets the ocean

Day 1) Depart your Adelaide accommodation and become one of the hundreds of happy travellers that have made the journey with us to Darwin. Today's journey takes us to Port Augusta, where we visit the well-known and recognised Wadlata Outback Centre. After we check into our motel we will be wowed by the Arid Lands Botanical Gardens. Finish the day with a delicious dinner. (Motel, Lunch, Dinner)

Port Augusta to Woomera Rocket Range, Lake Hart and Coober Pedy

Day 2) We leave Port Augusta and venture to Woomera for our first stop this morning, the town which is known as the Woomera Rocket Range. Learn about famous Len Beadell who surveyed the site and walk amongst the rockets and planes left behind by the British. Continue travelling along the Explorer Highway and enjoy a break at Lake Hart. Take a walk onto the salt lake and be amazed by the white salt crystals and the endless horizon. Our final drive brings us along Glendambo to Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world. We will spend two nights and a full day here to explore this bizarre town.

Coober Pedy Tour, great Outback town

Day 3) Discover Coober Pedy and start with our Opal Mine Tour, a visit to an underground church, take a town tour and see how some of the locals live. Try your luck in noodling for opal after lunch, visit a local art gallery and enjoy sunset at the stunning Breakaways.

Coober Pedy to Kings Canyon Resort

Day 4) A day to sit back and enjoy the passing scenery as we leave South Australia and venture into the Northern Territory along the Stuart Highway. The road is named after John McDouall Stuart. Shifting sand dunes, salt and clay pans made this construction a tough assignment. Arrive at Kings Canyon Resort where we set up camp for the next two nights.

Kings Canyon Experience - Walk and Fly

Day 5) After a delicious breakfast we explore Kings Canyon, a scenic landscape of rugged ranges, ancient sandstone walls, rock holes and gorges. Take a short walk into the base of the canyon and then break for lunch. A birds eye view is the best way to see this amazing part of the Watarrka National Park. Enjoy our included scenic helicopter flight over the Canyon rim and discover the "Lost City" and the "Garden of Eden". After our flight we head back to the resort, to our already set up camp for a second night.

Kings Canyon to Uluru, Australia's Outback icon

Day 6) After a hearty breakfast we drive to the most spectacular of indigenous sacred sites. Uluru - Ayers Rock is our destination today. It is the world's largest monolith rising 348 m above ground with a circumference of more than 9 km. Discover the cultural centre after lunch and witness a beautiful sunset with many changing colours of the rock and landscape. We stay overnight at the beautiful Outback Pioneer Hotel at the Ayers Rock Resort.

Uluru Tour, the Olgas and Sounds of Silence Dinner

Day 7) Uluru is one of Australia's most recognized natural landmarks and we start the day with a sunrise breakfast at Uluru. Then it is time to take in the true magnitude of the rock, by a walk around the base. Rest for a couple of hours back at the hotel before we head off to discover Kata Tjuta, the Olgas. Estimated to be over 500 million years old, the 36 weathered rock domes are another significant area for the Anangu people. We finish the night with the famous Sounds of Silence Dinner at Uluru.

Tour from Uluru to Alice Springs

Day 8) Time to say good bye to this world known part of Outback Australia and travel onto Alice Springs. We arrive early afternoon at our hotel for the next 4 nights.

Western Mac Donnell Ranges Day Tour

Day 9) Alice Springs is nestled in between the Western and Eastern Mac Donnell Ranges and today we will explore the Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek Big Hole and Ormiston Gorge. After a great day out, we return to our hotel in Alice Springs.

Alice Springs Free Time to Explore

Day 10 and 11) Enjoy two free days to explore art galleries, the Desert Park, take a sunrise balloon ride, visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service or the Road Transport Hall of Fame or just relax and soak up the history of the town. (Hotel Ibis, Breakfast)


Alice Springs to Devil's Marbles and Tennant Creek

Day 12) Driving towards the "Top End" we follow the trail of the giant termite nests and pass through Ti Tree and Barrow Creek. Stroll between the giant rock formations of Devil's Marbles located between Wauchope and Tennant Creek. These huge rounded boulders are the result of millions of year's erosion and are a nature lovers' and photographers' delight. Have a look around Tennant Creek before dinner.

Tennant Creek to Mataranka

Day 13) We travel further north to a small town called Mataranka. The Mataranka Homestead Tourist Resort is our accommodation for tonight. Framed by two rivers and the serene Elsey National Park, the homestead is a great place to relax. Swim in the crystal clear thermal pool, sit back and enjoy.

Travel from Mataranka to Katherine, Katherine Gorge Cruise

Day 14) After a morning swim in the thermal pools, we head towards Katherine.The township is set on the Katherine River which flows through Nitmiluk National Park and we are destined for a Dreaming River Cruise through many beautiful gorges this river has to offer. Stroll along the shops of Katherine to find a treasure or unique souvenir later in the afternoon before we meet up for a delicious dinner.

Katherine to Edith Falls

Day 15) Today we head out to Leliyn (Edith Falls) for a day of relaxation and swimming in the main pool. Walk to the summit for a breathtaking view and a soak in the top rock pools. Tour from Katherine to Litchfield National Park

Day 16 and 17) Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the Northern Territory landscape are termite mounds. The species with the most interest is the Magnetic Group. Learn about these constructions and travel to Batchelor, the Gateway to Litchfield National Park. The park has many attractions and with an extra day on our side, we will enjoy the scenery, explore the Florence and Wangi waterfalls, the monsoon forest and walking trails.

Adelaide River Cruise with jumping crocodiles - arrive in Darwin

Day 18) Watch out for giant salt water crocodiles as we take the Jumping Crocodile Cruise up the Adelaide River. It is a great way of seeing crocodiles in their natural habitat. Leaving the saltie's behind us, we make our way into Darwin after lunch. Year round warm weather glorious sunsets, relaxed lifestyle and numerous attractions will await you in this far north city. We will bring you to your accommodation and meet up for our final dinner together at the Fannie Bay Sailing Club tonight. (Breakfast, Lunch)

This tour is designed for travellers of all age groups. The oldest passenger was a proud 84 years old and truly enjoyed our Australian outback adventure. This tour includes 6 camping nights.  We camp in style with full facilities - Glamping. We provide large stretcher beds for an additional $100 if you do not wish to sleep in a swag. You can also upgrade all six camping nights for an additional cost.
